Carter, Sr. (D-La.) issued the following statement after the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure passed H.R. 1796, the Disaster Survivors Fairness Act of 2023. Congressman Carter led this bipartisan legislation with Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-Nv.) and Congressman Garret Graves (R-La.).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-La.) hosted Dennis “Maliq” Barnes in our nation’s Capital. Barnes is the widely publicized International High School student from New Orleans, Louisiana who was awarded over ten million dollars in scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. Barnes is also enrolled at Southern University where he has earned 27 credit hours.
