Black History Essay Contest

In honor of celebrating Black history, Congressman Troy A. Carter Sr. is launching his annual Black History Essay contest.

The prompt for the essay contest is as follows:

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were some of the most important Civil Rights legislation passed in our nation’s history. While we have made significant improvements protecting the civil rights of our citizens, there are still areas that need addressing. In 500 words or less, critically examine the state of today’s nation, identify ongoing practices that you believe infringe upon civil rights, and propose legislative changes to solve this issue.
