Congressman Troy Carter Celebrates Historic Confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the United States Senate voted on a bipartisan basis to confirm Judge KetanjiBrownJackson as our nation’s next Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (LA-02), released the following statement, as well as a video statement:
“With the confirmation of Justice KetanjiBrownJackson another glass ceiling came crashing down – and what a glorious sound it was. It is long past time the Supreme Court bench includes a Black woman Justice, and I am so grateful to President Biden for keeping his promise and selecting such an unimpeachable nominee. This is a moment for celebration.
“Judge KetanjiBrownJackson is the most qualified U.S. Supreme Court Justice nominee in almost two decades for a reason. She has shown resilience throughout her career and nomination process, even when faced with cruel attacks on her character. Throughout unfair characterizations, Judge Jacksonstill maintained extreme poise and composure – an experience far too many Black women face every day.
“Justice Jackson exemplifies the best of America. Throughout her career she has been a voice for the voiceless and a committed advocate in the pursuit of justice.
“Her confirmation today pays homage to our ancestors who, in front of the same Supreme Court bench that Judge Jackson will soon sit, were told that they were not citizens. Her confirmation defies the wrongs of our past, reaffirms the endless opportunities for the youth of our present, and offers hope for the generations of our future.
“With this confirmation entered into the history books, America sends a message to Black girls and women everywhere that there is no goal too high, no ceiling that can’t be broken. They too can be on the Supreme Court.
“While Judge KetanjiBrownJackson will be the first Black woman to serve as a Supreme Court Justice, she will not be the last.”
