Congressman Carter Applauds President Biden’s Historic Nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the Next U.S. Supreme Court Justice

February 25, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Troy A. Carter Sr. released the following statement after the news broke of U.S. Circuit Court Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson nomination to serve on the United States Supreme Court:

“The highest court in the land should be representative of all Americans. Two years ago today, President Biden recognized that it was past time for a Black women to have a seat on the Supreme Court bench. I am grateful to President Biden for keeping his word and following it up with action.

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is qualified, thoughtful, capable, and conscientious. Her exemplary career demonstrates that she will be an outstanding member of the United States Supreme Court.

“As we near the end of Black History Month 2022, Judge Jackson’s historic nomination honors Black women’s past and present role in guiding our country forward, while recognizing the work that still remains to achieve full equality.

“I urge the Senate to execute a swift but thorough consideration of her nomination – as they have several times before – and send her to take her rightful place as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.”
